It’s Your Time To Play
Hello! I'm Alex. Most people know me as an artist and a teacher.
And I'm here to help you get back to doing the creative fun stuff that lights you up, so you can stop putting your joy on hold.
So, let me ask you a question:
Have you ever had plenty of free time, but felt like you had zero energy to do anything that truly matters to you? Think about all those creative projects you keep waiting for the "right moment" to start. Is it drawing, photography, painting, pottery, knitting, or art-journaling?
Well, if your projects are piling up while perfectionism keeps you stuck, I get it. I really, truly get it.
Because what you may not know about me is that I used to cry in the mornings because I didn't wanna go to work.
After spending six years in college, I ended up in a shiny corporate career in interior design, only to end up trapped in a loop. Drawing plans on the computer, printing them out, handing them over, getting them back with corrections, and repeating the process over and over. I. Hated. It.
It sucked all the joy right out of me.
Even though I had plenty of free time after work and on weekends, I had zero energy to do anything that mattered to me, like my art. I mean, I thought about painting ALL THE TIME. But I could never get started. So I started believing there was something wrong with me.
My perfectionism led me to think the solution was to try harder.
I was convinced that to fix myself, I needed to be more productive. Oh, the self-help books I read! And the hours in the gym! And to be totally honest, there was also a lot of retail therapy going on. But none of it helped me find my way out.
I still remember how totally trapped I felt.
Then I got lucky. My roommate kept dragging me to his dance rehearsals and convincing me to make stuff for his performances. One day, someone at the theater pulled me aside and said, "You know, those things you're making have a name, right? They’re called props, and people actually get paid for doing that.”
A door opened. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and I ditched my well-paying corporate job to become a props artisan. No lie.
Well, first I spent a year as a props apprentice. And since that doesn't pay a whole lot, I also ended up waitressing on the side. Eeeek!
Here's the wild part. Working 40 hours a week in a workshop, where I was making things, getting messy, figuring stuff out I'd never done before, gave me MORE energy than sitting behind a computer ever had. I had so much energy that I was able to work two jobs AND find time to paint again. I made enough paintings to start showing my art. And eventually, I found my first gallery. Another door opened.
That's how I went from miserable corporate designer to full-time artist.
Not by pushing harder. By playing.

I've learned that whenever I felt stuck, play was what unlocked the door.
It was the play of making stuff for my roommate that led me out of my miserable job and into the world of theater. And it was the play of making theater props that led me to painting full-time.
When you choose play over push, your energy returns. And you get your time back. Your creative projects stop feeling impossible and start feeling doable again.
There's an open door waiting for you, and play is how you find it.
Because too many recovering perfectionists are feeling stuck and struggling to start the creative projects they love.
They’re thinking no matter how hard they try, finding time to be creative feels like a luxury that’s out of their reach. As in, who has time for this when there’s so much real work and real life to do.
Just looking at their beautiful unused art supplies is making them feel bad about themselves. And they’re thinking since they can’t even put in the hours to create something that’s good, then maybe it’s too late to pick this up again anyway.
And this is where I come in. I’m passionate about helping you overcome your resistance so you can get started. My mission is to help you get into motion, from stuck to taking imperfect action. This is why I’m obsessed with simple prompts, basic supplies, and tiny tasks. Because keeping things easy-peasy gives you momentum.
The easier it is for you to sprinkle tiny play breaks into your day, the more you’ll boost your energy and take back your time for what truly matters - following your joy. As in, reigniting your love of all things creative and getting back to messing around with your art supplies. Yay!
You don't have to put your joy on hold anymore.
